What to Expect

If you have a bariatric procedure done at our center, this would be your experience at LIMARP.

Day One: Admission and surgery day

If you are a local patient, you will be admitted directly to LIMARP and will begin your process of hospital admission, since you have already attended the bariatric consultation with Dr. Pompa, a consultation with the doctor of Internal Medicine, Psychology consultation and preoperative and nutritional management.

If you are a foreign patient, when you get to the San Diego International airport, our driver will meet you at the information area of your airline. The driver will have a signboard with the name LIMARP-DR. POMPA.

You will cross the border and they’ll take you to LIMARP.
When you come to our center you will sign the hospital admission and informed consent papers. Then, you will be taken to your private room where doctors will conduct a preoperative medical evaluation to prepare you for surgery. This assessment includes lab tests and electrocardiogram taken by our reference lab, as well as x-rays taken within the same building.

The doctors in charge of postoperative follow-up will talk to you about your diet and weekly menus that will follow after the surgery. You will receive all the information in a folder.

Our internist will review your medical history as part of your preoperative evaluation. You'll also meet Dr. Pompa, who will answer your last-minute questions about the surgical procedure.

You will also have a consultation with an anesthesiologist who will conduct a pre-anesthetic evaluation and talk with you about the type of anesthesia and pain management to be used in your case.

The surgery is performed using a minimally invasive technique (laparoscopy). The duration of the surgery varies depending on the type of surgery that you choose.

Your companion can expect a wait of one or two hours. Dr. Pompa will inform your family about your condition when the surgery is completed.

The recovery time varies depending on the patient and the type of surgery. Most patients begin to walk mere hours after the surgery and only experience some minor discomfort. The pain medications are administered according to a protocol developed in our center to help patients recover as quickly as possible.
